Financial Aid

Money Money Money...

For anyone who is interested in Post Secondary training, money is always a concern. Even for those who are financially stable, you need to look and see how your training is going to affect your family. Are you going to college? It’s important to know that College fees are at an all time high. If you plan on going to an in-state public school you need to plan on spending anywhere between $15,000 and $18,000. Private in-state school? Plan on spending anywhere between $25,000 and $36,000. If you plan on going out of state, the prices are so high it is equivalent to buying a nice family car. The majority of people cannot afford to pay for college out of pocket, so they turn to many different sources to get money, so as little money as possible needs to come out of pocket. With the average family income in Michigan between $28,000 and $40,000 the financial assistance is very necessary

Different Kinds of Financial Aid

For those looking for Financial Aid, and don’t know where to look, this section is going to help significantly. First, there are many different kind of Financial Aid available to you.

Loans- Loans need to be your last resort. Loans are designed with you and your money in mind. While all you need is an adult with good credit to co-sign your loan, you must start to pay off your loan with in about six months of finishing college. These loans have an interest rate that is usually moderately high, so the bank is making money. However, there are a few banks that do not charge interest while you are in college, so choose wisely if you are taking out a loan.

Scholarships- Scholarships are designed with you in mind, not like our friend Mr. Loan. Scholarships come in every shape and (monetary) size, and in almost any kind of way. Your teachers will present scholarship opportunities to you starting your junior year of High School. Most of them require you to fill out a form and sometimes write an essay on a subject of their choice. Many legitimate scholarships are available on the Internet. It is however very important to keep your grades up all through high school because many scholarships out there are based on your grades and will not be awarded if you do not have the appropriate grade point average.

Grant- Grants are awarded to you after you apply for them. However, they are very hard to get and people compete very hard to get them. Usually when one is going into a particular area of study they will apply for a grant that deals directly with that area of study.
