Jason's best friends only had good things to say about him.
"We love being goofy, having sword fights at recess and playing soccer," says Oliver.
"Between you and me, video games are me, Jason, Joseph, and Oliver's world!" says John.

“He has done an outstanding job this week! His hard work paid off because he got all his spelling correct and turned in all his homework!” Mr. Herzog exclaims. “
Spencer Swanson, a boy who loves to play video games, has put them aside to do better in school.
"I would like to do better in school because it pleases my mom. Even
though I like to play video games I’ve realized my mom is very proud of me when I’m doing better in school,” says Spencer.
Great things can come out of doing better in school and Spencer is working towards becoming a cartoon producer. Other favorite things of Spencer's are: drawing, watching movies like The Dark Knight, and playing both baseball and soccer.
“I have always pictured myself as being a good friend,” says Spencer. Spencer's good friend Evan Bobo says, “ Spencer is my best friend. I can’t really tell you exactly what we do because it’s never the same day after day. He’s a person who is nice to everyone. We love playing video games but he has yet to beat me. He’s getting better though he may beat me soon.”
“My favorite things to do in school are math and spelling,” says Spencer. This week Spencer did an outstanding job with both math and spelling by getting 100%. Keep up the good work, Spencer!

MATTHEW BALCH, Young Fives (April 13-17)

Matthew-Balch-3.jpg
Matthew Balch
Congratulations to Matthew Balch (Young 5), who won Student Of The Week! Matthew was nominated because he is such a great friend and he follows the Concord creed very well!
"A new boy visited and Matthew was his buddy for the day. Matthew went above and beyond. He shared all his toys and showed him all around the school. He was a GREAT friend!" says Mrs. Batchelder.
Friendship is very important to Matthew. "A friend is someone who is kind and someone who will play with me and someone who will color with me," says Matthew.
Matthew's favorite things to do are puzzles, playing dinos, and swinging, and his favorite part about school is counting. Everyone should follow Matthew's example and be a great friend to someone this week.

Eliza Ford Student of the Week

EFOrd1.jpg
It comes as no surprise to the kindergarten students that Eliza Ford was chosen to be Student of the Week. Eliza sets a good example to her fellow kindergartners in Miss Hoffman's class. But what else do we know about Eliza? I set out to the lower level of CAB to investigate...
I invited Miss Ford out of class to be interviewed; she seemed awfully shy. However, as the moments passed, I realized that she was simply modest about her award. I asked her some of the basic questions, such as "What is your favorite class?" Eliza stated that music, with Mrs. Sarya, was her most favorable class. I also inquired as to how she found out she was student of the week. She said that she received messages from art and music class, "...just to say how great I am," as Eliza put it.
Lastly, due to the autumn holiday coming up, I wondered what she was planning to be for Halloween. I glanced at her present outfit, and today being character dress-up day, assumed she would be a witch for Halloween night as well. To my surprise, she said "I'm going to be a skeleton...a regular skeleton." Eliza has no siblings, but will proudly trick-or-treat with her cousins this year.
Eliza seemed genuinely kind, but I thought we should hear from the prospective of another fellow student. Mikahla, another kindergartner, was willing to share her opinion with me. "Do you know Eliza well, are you friends with her?" I asked, as she wiggled around in the miniature chair in the hallway. She declared that Eliza and she are friends. Then I proceeded through the interview, and asked why she thought Eliza was chosen as Student of the Week. "Eliza is a Star Helper, that's why she's Student of the Week." Mikahla has a cheery and positive attitude toward Eliza's award. "Who do you think will be the next S.O.T.W. in your class?" I inquired the kindergartner. "Emma!" She exclaimed, one hundred and ten percent sure. As our short interview was coming to an end, I asked Mikahla one last question. "Do you know what your are going to be for Halloween tomorrow?" As she was skipping back into Ms. Hoffman's room, she turned around and smiled. "Larry Boy! Larry Boy!" She said, and then disappeared into the crowd of children.
The last few questions about Eliza were asked to Ms. Hoffman, Eliza's teacher. "What do you think Eliza's best personality trait is?" After some more contemplation, she replied, "She is, overall, a kind friend. She is very considerate, and worries about others..." the teacher went on to explain how Eliza tends to others' needs before her own. Next, I asked what Eliza enjoys most, academically speaking. "Reading! She really enjoyed beginning to read." Said Miss Hoffman, enthusiastically.
From my three interviews, everyone can be assured that Eliza deserved the spotlight this week. She has good work ethics, makes a great friend, and is overall a kind young girl. Send your congratulations to Eliza Ford, in Ms. Hoffmans's kindergarten class, for being awarded "Student of the Week" here at CAB.

Jenna Cikalo-Student of the Week

ERROR
Jenna Cikalo

When asked,"Why did you choose Jenna as Student of The Week?" Mrs. Johnson response was,"I choose Jenna because she works hard and she's always on task. She always follows the Concord Creed." Academics seem really important to Jenna and her teacher as well. Jenna's favorite class is math.

Jenna Cikalo is in the first grade and this is her first year in CAB. Her best friend is Pheobe Holm. "I like Pheobe because she is nice." Jenna seems to support this opinion about her teacher as well. Jenna spends her free time playing 'Lego Batman', and playing with her three-year-old brother.

Jenna says,"When I grow up I want to be a photographer, because I like taking pictures." Commenting this, Jenna was drawing a picture with her friends. Jenna expression was a big smile on her face and giggled while she she pointed out she loved drawing pictures as much as taking them. What Jenna draws most of all is her family.

Choosing a student of the week is challenging but it was clear why Jenna Cikalo was chosen for this week. Good for you, Jenna!
